Behind the Scenes: Creating Taber's 120th Anniversary Video

Monday, July 14, 2025 4:12 PM

From the beginning of April to the end of June, we had the incredible honour of producing the official Town of Taber 120th Anniversary video—a project that turned into much more than just a video. It became a heartfelt tribute to the people, places, and stories that make Taber such a special place to call home.

Meeting the Heart of Taber

The backbone of this project was, without a doubt, the people of Taber. Over three months, we had the chance to film and interview many residents—from lifelong locals to new arrivals, from town staff to business owners and community volunteers.

What stood out at every stop was the warmth, generosity, and genuine pride people had in their town. Everyone had a story to share, and every story added a new thread to the tapestry we were weaving.

A Production That Took Heart and Hustle

Producing a video of this scale takes more than just cameras and computers. It takes planning, patience, and persistence. An important cog in the production engine was Meghan Brennan, the Communications Manager for the Town of Taber. Without Meghan’s passion, enthusiasm and genuine love for this project it would have taken much longer to produce. Meghan is so great to work with, she was able to book and coordinate shoots/interviews and most importantly gain access to places that would otherwise have been impossible.

Starting in early April, we set out to capture Taber in all its seasonal glory—fields being planted, kids at play, community events in full swing. Our team juggled logistics, scheduling, weather, and tight timelines, often filming early mornings and late into the evening to catch the perfect light or moment.

Interview days were both exhausting and energizing. Sometimes we’d set up in community centres or parks; other times, we’d grab quick chats with people on the go. The goal was to capture authentic voices, not scripted lines. And that meant listening more than directing.

The Editing Marathon

With hours and hours of footage gathered, the next challenge began: editing. Sifting through interviews, b-roll, drone shots, and archive material to shape a narrative that honoured the past, celebrated the present, and looked toward the future.

The edit room became our second home. Long days blurred into nights as we worked to ensure every frame, every transition, and every soundbite did justice to the spirit of Taber.

There were challenges, of course—tight deadlines, writing scripts for voiceovers, last-minute tweaks—but every challenge was worth it to deliver a final cut that resonated with residents and visitors alike.

A Celebration of Community

When the finished video premiered, the reaction was overwhelming. There were smiles, laughter, even a few tears. People saw themselves, their families, and their hometown reflected onscreen—not just in images, but in emotion and pride.

Creating this video wasn’t just a job. It was a privilege. We walked away with a deeper appreciation for the community spirit that defines Taber and the stories that bind its people together.
